Here is my first Friday Paint Party painting. It is an 18x24" watercolor and colored pencil affectionately nicknamed "Nemo."
I've been working on this piece for a few weeks and I'm stuck. I thought I was done except for painting another small clown fish in the white space above the coral.
I like my anemone and fish by themselves:
and I like to coral on the right side by itself, but as a whole, I'm not fond of the composition. I don't like the space to the left of the anemone and I think I need some darker and perhaps more defined seaweed behind the anemone, but I'm not sure.
So, should I
- leave it as is (once I put in the other fish)?
- crop it into two pieces and make it into a group?
- leave it big, but paint some more?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my art lessons are on "summer break" as of Monday.
Sorry I can't advise you. Your rock and anemone and clown fish are so well done! But I agree with you, I don't think you are quite done.
ReplyDeleteI think this would make a lovely diptych. It would need a fishy with the coral on the right. Its a lovely piece. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteWow, I think this piece is incredibly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLike Marji's thoughts on your beautiful painting. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful textures and value changes! I wonder if incorporating a little of the red (or a red) into the coral would tie things together more? Or maybe repeat some of the yellow-green(next to the fish) in the foreground?
ReplyDeleteI think it's really gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove how the fish is swimming towards that beautiful violet-colored botanical to the right!
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

ReplyDeletethis looks great and I love pencil over watercolour... it is how I work on botanical work... I have a good friend who does a lot of underwater subjects and looking at her work may help you resolve some things and the link is here... http://vonnykart.blogspot.com.au/ ... I really like how this is progressing and I look forward to seeing how you finish it off...xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Think I'd go with another fish:)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love it the way it is. It's really very pretty. I love your watercolors! So glad you joined us for Paint Party Friday. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteHi Cris...Nice job..Nice name.. :) I think you need to put in the other fish and then decide if you are done or not. Hard to visualize without it in.. but I love it so far. Thanks for the lovely comment on my blog. I hope you do get into journaling as I am having so much fun doing this. It's something new to me too since I have only painted with Oils before. Happy PPF.
