Zentangle 101
In this 2.5-3 hour introductory class, students learn the basic principles and guidelines for the Zentangle art form. Students will become familiar with the history and philosophy of the Zentangle method and learn to:- Create beautiful abstract art pieces using a simple, step by step process;
- Focus attention and develop a relaxing, meditative practice while drawing; and
- Discover that what might appear to be complex or "impossible" can be broken down into steps that can easily be master.
Introduction to Zendala
Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning circle. A Zendala is a beautiful piece of art the incorporates Zentangle into creating a mandala. This class builds on the basics learned in Zentangle 101. Additional tangles and techniques are taught.
Zendalas are my absolute favorite way to tangle.
Exploring Zentangle
In this 3 week class, students learn many new and more complex tangles and explore the variations of strings, tangle enhancements, advanced shading techniques, and more. Still working in the traditional black and white style of Zentangle, students will experiment with:- Tangling outside the string;
- Learning ways to create depth using shading, "tangling behind", and scale;
- Creating a Zentangle ensemble;
- Enhancing their art using various shading techniques; and
- Embellishing using perfs, glints, carbonation, halos, etc.
Art Of The Tangle
In this 3 week class, students explore the world of Zentangle Inspired Art. Because the Zentangle method is so easy to learn, and full of possibilities, Zentangle can be used as a jumping off point for "non-artist" students to further develop their artistic instincts in areas that may have seemed intimidating in the past. By adding color, working on non-traditional Zentangle surfaces, and using watercolor techniques, students see how they can develop their own creative styles.Students will experiment with :
- Using exotic papers and surfaces to tangle on
- Making light on dark Zentangles using white and metallics
- How highlights and shadows can be used together to create depth and interest.
- Adding color with watercolor pencils
- Choosing combinations of colors that work well together
- Layering colors
- Experimenting with watercolor washes
- Using watercolor paints applied to wet and dry papers to create beautiful watercolor washes.
- Moving the color around the paper, and controlling the edges between colors.
- Layering colors
