Hideaway

I had a wonderful weekend at both the CZT Hideaway and Retreat to Paradise. It was both inspiring and humbling to be around that much talent. Both retreats were run so well.  Over the next few weeks, I'm sure I'll be sharing some of the objects form our goodie bags as I have time to tangle them.

But in the meantime, I want to share my newest tangle that I call Hideaway. I got it from the design of a confessional screen from the TV show Touch and introduced it at the Hideaway.  It is easy to do and has endless tangleations.

Hideaway Borders
I did this tile at the hideaway. That beauty in the middle is based on a tangle that Peg Farmer introduced at the CZT Hideaway.  (Follow the link to Anne's blog for a sneak peek.)
And, finally, I decided to use it in this week's Diva challenge: using square strings.

If you want to see more about what we did at CZT Hideaway, you need to see Anne's blog.  She did a great job showing the highlights of this wonderful weekend.

If you try this tangle, please let me know what you think of it.

(Come back tomorrow for Day 33 of One Zentangle a Day virtual book club.)

A Trio of New Tangles for the New Year

Happy New Year!

Birdie and I have a problem:  the white board in our schoolroom is so full of new tangles that there is barely any room to do math!  Check this out:
So that we can erase the board to start the new year fresh, I promised her that I would write up and post the steps for her tangles on my blog.  Here they are.  Enjoy!
I like this one.  I think it looks like a rose.

I like the asymmetrical look of this one.  It's very bold.

Birdie is somewhat obsessed with Harry Potter.  Each of the triangles looks a bit like the Deathly Hallows.

Royal Wedding - Zentangle Style

This week's challenge from the Diva is to create a tangle inspired by the royal wedding.  I LOVE the architecture of the building itself and was drawn in by the woodwork here.  I also was taken in by the gold braids on the uniforms.  I just love a man in uniform.  I used one section of the wall in each corner and tied it all up with a variation of the official tangle Vega.  I call it Double-V.

In the center is another tangle I made up.

Well, I think it could be considered a tangle.  It is a repetitive pattern, so I guess it qualifies.  I call it Harten, Dutch for Heart.

Birdie thinks both of these are super easy to figure out, but I'll post if anyone is interested.

Birdie's New Tangle: C's the Day

My daughter Birdie is almost 13 and wants to be a CZT in the WORST way.  Not to be outdone by my tangle Esses, she made one using only cursive c's.  She has a much cuter name, though.  She called hers "C's the Day."  Here are the steps:

And here are a few Zentangles I made using it.

rows of "C's the Day" make a nice wavy effect

C's the Day and Esses and Stripes, Oh My!

I like it.  What about you?

My New Tangle: Esses

I've been fooling around the last two hours with a new tangle.  I love creating them.  I don't like researching to see if it actually is "new."  Some of them are so simple, I can't believe no one else has already done it.  At least I found a site that lists names.  I wanted to call this one "swell" or "waves" but these were already taken, so I went with a simple "s" which Scrabble players know is spelled "ess."
Hope you like it.

Please let me know if anyone else has already claimed this one.  Here's a 'mono-tangle' I made using it.
If you decide to try it, please post a link.  It is very fun to do.

All New Tangles

I made this tile using tangles created by the new class of CZTs.  My notes aren't the greatest, so apologies if I spelled someone's name wrong or drew the pattern wrong. Instead of shading with a pencil, I used Sakura's metallic Gelly Roll pens.  It is much sparklier in real life.  My scanner does not do it justice.

So, here goes, from left to right and top to bottom:

Ragz by CZT Christina Vandervlist
Flord by CZT Bobbi Florida
Peas by CZT Mara ???
Kirk Pips by CZT Susan Startini
Embrr by yours truly
Snups by CZT Ronni Pressman
Infinity by CZT Carmen Jones
Eyeabull by CZT Suzy Shedd

Name This Tangle!

Here is my first attempt at making my own pattern.
This plastic plant on the kitchen table of our villa was just begging to be tangled.

I'm not sure that it's original, but in case it is, I've written instructions.  Hope I'm doing this right.

Once I got started, I found I couldn't stop.  I made my daughter stop swimming so I could take some close ups of the stripes on her swimsuit because they also needed to be tangled.

Here's a tile I made using these tangles.  Of course, with just the two of them, the tile looked so blank and the tangles looked so lonely, that I just had to put in some friends for them.
So, can you think of a name for this pattern?

Zen and the art of football

What could be less relaxing than watching the Steelers-Jets playoff game?  I was so stressed when I was done, that I needed to tangle.

First, I made a new tangelation: SteelerZ

and I made a Zentangle football using it.  Hope you like it.
