One Tangle at a Time

The Diva's challenge this week couldn't have been more perfect for me.  Things have been crazy since I got back from the CZT seminar.  Between coaching Birdie on her Duck Stamp, catching up on the housework, getting ready to teach at co-op tomorrow, and trying to start my tangling business, I feel like my LIFE has become one big tangle.  I really Laura's challenge of creating a tangle using a single pattern.  It felt like a subtle reminder to stop, take a deep breath, and focus on one thing at a time.

At first, I had no idea of where to start, but then I though of fellow CZT Peggy's love for ribbons and decided to draw a string with my eyes shut and turn it into a ribbon. I tangled it with my variation of Betweed variation.  (My variation is to do each section in the opposite direction of its neighbors.  Unless I lose focus and mess it up like I did her.)

I really like how it turned out, but I was inspired to do another using Shelley's BeetlJus pattern.  I find it very relaxing to do and it always turns out great.  This one was obviously planned, so I guess it is technically Zentangle-inspired art instead of a true Zentangle, but it is one of my favorite pieces so far. Hope you like it, too.

By the way, for those of you in the Columbus area, I have my first workshop scheduled on April 9.

  1. Yup - I definitely love the tile and ZIA, both. Congrats, Cris and keep up the (highly caffeinated) pace - you can do it! *G*

  4. Pre-designed or not your btl-joose is wonderful - and we set our own rules anyways, right?

  10. Too funny. Snake ribbon. I was thinking more of a bracelet, but now that you mention it, I can see the reptilian aura around it:-)

Thanks for the kudos on the banner. It was a fun experiment. I enlarged an ATC with Photoshop and tried to touch it up there, but got frustrated and ended up printing it out and fixing everything up by hand. I like it.

  11. Both are great!! These are two of my favorite patterns. I am new to this art and I have a question about something you said.
" This one was obviously planned, so I guess it is technically Zentangle-inspired art instead of a true Zentangle"
If your drawing is planned it is called "Zentangle-inspired? So I am guessing that if you just draw whatever pattern comes in your head at the time is a true Zentangle?

  12. Hi Carol,
A true Zentangle should be a surprise to its creator. That is part of what make it so relaxing. There is no pressure to create something that matches whatever you intended to make. So, in my mind, if you are planning on creating an image and use repetitive patterns in the Zentangle method, then it is Zentangle-inspired. Hope this clears things up.
