Happy Earth Day

After last week, I think the whole earth needs some happiness, so here is my Diva challenge for earth day.

Inspired by my favorite quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

earth-day-2013

Here are some other flower-themed pieces I have been working on for the last few weeks.

This one is made using an old cereal box.  How perfect for earth day.  I started by covering the box in masking tape and gesso. The original lines were made using Elmer's glue. Then I did quite a few watercolor washes. Then I sprayed it with workable fixative and added detail with acrylic paint, markers, gel pens, and india ink. For all of the time I spent on this, I think it is still not quite right, so I will put it aside for a few weeks and see if I can figure it out with fresh eyes.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Finally, here is my tangled garden inspired by Cherryl Moote's book of the same name. I was fortunate enough to take a class from her at Retreat to Paradise. Joanne Fink also taught her Zenspirations Dangle designs class and I added some dangles to this piece. I just wish you could see all of the glitter in the pictures. I went crazy with the sparkle pens.

  3. Like your first tile with the tangles encircling the earth. What better way to indicate Earth day by doing tangle on recycled material.

  7. Your accordion book is so gorgeous! I love the little pop-out flowers and the color palette is so pretty. I love the idea with the cereal box. It's wonderful! I'm not confident in my painting skills, so after doing all of the ink drawing I'm afraid I'll "mess it up" if I make a mistake with the paint. But this is all for fun anyway, so why not try it?!? Yours looks great!

    1. Well, I did the ink drawing last. It was a last-ditch effort to save the painting in fact :-)
